Multilevel Mixture Kalman Filter

چکیده
The mixture Kalman filter is a general sequential Monte Carlo technique for conditional linear dynamic systems. It generates samples of some indicator variables recursively based on sequential importance sampling (SIS) and integrates out the linear and Gaussian state variables conditioned on these indicators. Due to the marginalization process, the complexity of the mixture Kalman filter is quite high if the dimension of the indicator sampling space is high. In this paper, we address this difficulty by developing a newMonte Carlo sampling scheme, namely, the multilevel mixture Kalman filter. The basic idea is to make use of the multilevel or hierarchical structure of the space from which the indicator variables take values. That is, we draw samples in a multilevel fashion, beginning with sampling from the highest-level sampling space and then draw samples from the associate subspace of the newly drawn samples in a lower-level sampling space, until reaching the desired sampling space. Such a multilevel sampling scheme can be used in conjunction with the delayed estimation method, such as the delayed-sample method, resulting in delayed multilevel mixture Kalman filter. Examples in wireless communication, specifically the coherent and noncoherent 16-QAM over flat-fading channels, are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed multilevel mixture Kalman filter.

Improved Bearings-Only Multi-Target Tracking with GM-PHD Filtering
In this paper, an improved nonlinear Gaussian mixture probability hypothesis density (GM-PHD) filter is proposed to address bearings-only measurements in multi-target tracking. The proposed method, called the Gaussian mixture measurements-probability hypothesis density (GMM-PHD) filter, not only approximates the posterior intensity using a Gaussian mixture, but also models the likelihood functi...

In the several past years, Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) and Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) havebecame basic algorithm for state-variables and parameters estimation of discrete nonlinear systems. The UKF has consistently outperformed for estimation. Sometimes least estimation error doesn't yieldwith UKF for the most nonlinear systems. In this paper, we use a new approach for a two variablestate no...
متن کاملA New Adaptive Extended Kalman Filter for a Class of Nonlinear Systems
This paper proposes a new adaptive extended Kalman filter (AEKF) for a class of nonlinear systems perturbed by noise which is not necessarily additive. The proposed filter is adaptive against the uncertainty in the process and measurement noise covariances. This is accomplished by deriving two recursive updating rules for the noise covariances, these rules are easy to implement and reduce the n...
متن کاملGaussian Mixture Model-Based Ensemble Kalman Filtering for State and Parameter Estimation for a PMMA Process
Abstract: Polymer processes often contain state variables whose distributions are multimodal; in addition, the models for these processes are often complex and nonlinear with uncertain parameters. This presents a challenge for Kalman-based state estimators such as the ensemble Kalman filter. We develop an estimator based on a Gaussian mixture model (GMM) coupled with the ensemble Kalman filter ...
متن کاملThe "Blob" Filter: Gaussian Mixture Nonlinear Filtering with Re-Sampling for Mixand Narrowing
A new Gaussian mixture filter has been developed, one that uses a re-sampling step in order to limit the covariances of its individual Gaussian components. The new filter has been designed to produce accurate solutions of difficult nonlinear/nonBayesian estimation problems. It uses static multiple-model filter calculations and Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) approximations for each Gaussian mixand...
